Have you tried parking in Avila Beach lately? Man. And to think that just a few years ago the place was deserted, aside from seagulls and a few bulldozers.
Things should be hopping even more than usual tomorrow when the Dentures drop in. As we noted in a recent Ticket story, the Dentures are a local band of 50-somethings inspired by the surf band the Ventures. Their authentic versions of classics like “Pipeline” and “Apache” will be a perfect fit for the casual Avila beach scene.
The first half of the show, near the pier, will be an acoustic set. Then the band will plug in for the second half.
Next Thursday the surf music continues, this time in San Luis Obispo, when two legends of the genre drop by.
Paul Johnson and Gil Orr will perform as The Duotones at the Creekside Community Center (3960 S. Higuera Street). Johnson wrote “Mr. Moto” when he was with The Belairs. Orr was a member of The Chantays, famous for “Pipeline.”
Tickets are $10. For info, call 541-1352.
